This post is dedicated to my job as a fashion journalist and fashion stylist. Some friends were telling me a few days ago with some sort of envy in their voice, how amazing and beautifull is this job. And I wouldn’t dare to argue about that… but I tell you one thing for sure: this job is not as “pink” as it seems from the outside.

As a fashion journalist you have to be always in touch with the most recent fashion shows, events, news, scrolling and viewing hundreds of collection, select the trends, make suggestions about wearing etc. And you have to be passionate about it. Without passion you may kiss goodbay this job. I’ve seen so many young girls who want to fallow a carrier as a fashion editor… but they simply weren’t good at all… they didn’t knew the basics not to mention other thing necessary for their activity.

Really do you think is that easy? No it’s not. You have to start as a young girl, read a lot of expertise books, follow some courses, watch all the news, collections etc… and have a sense of fashion developed in you… a sense of mixing colours, textures, fabrics.

It’s one thing to want to become fashion editor/stylist and another thing to accomplish that. And the aim is to get better and better… not to resume yourself at some words, stereotypes and copy/paste stuff from others who know how to deal with this job and what it means.

So young girls… it sounds good but think a little before you make a choice: do you really want to make a shame of yourself under a fancy job title or you want to put on a good use your real skills and vocation (no matter what that is)?

Oh well you have many options. As I wrote in the post it’s not mandatory you falllow a course or something. It’s all about how well you are prepared for this job and how much you are willing to learn. You have to read a lot of expertise books and of course if you want to fallow a course you can do some design courses or styling courses… depends on your needs as a professional.

You may start with “Histoire de la mode et du costume”… it’s a very good book for the start.

I think being a fashion editor is one of the most amazing jobs one could have. However, writing that first collection review is the most frightening things I’ve ever done in my life.
